Where are the Men? New KALW, "My Six Cents" and Many Shades Interviews
Still no word from the DNC
As Democrats and many folks around the world rightly lament and protest some of the drastic changes put into place by the current administration, I continue to focus on how the Democrats can better position themselves going forward, especially in 2026 and 2028. Three important special elections are happening in 2025 that could let Dems take back control of the House. These races are quite important, and winning them should be a short-term focus. If you’re looking for something to do now, I would recommend trying to support these three races.
However, I continue to stress the need for Democrats to better appeal to men and therefore have a better chance at winning back Congress, The White House, and eventually the Supreme Court over the coming years and decades. And even more importantly, focusing on male social issues would improve outcomes for boys and men, and therefore all of us. But so far, I’ve seen very little in terms of a shift in attitude from the DNC.
As of today, my multiple attempts to contact the DNC including my open letter to DNC leadership sent last week have gone completely unanswered but I will continue to reach out. Of course, I’ll let you know of any developments!
Three New Podcast Interviews
I continue to try to get the word out, and there does appear to be growing interest in male social issues and how they connect to politics. Here are three of my recent interviews regarding my book How Democrats Can Win Back Men, review of the 2024 election results including “Sutton’s Key,” and the Democrats’ continued strategy of ignoring male social issues.
“Missing Men: Sutton’s Key to Democratic Wins” - My Six Cents Podcast with Darren Platt
I was honored to appear on Darren Platt’s “My Six Cents” podcast where we had a very level-headed discussion of the issues. With Darren, I heard some important things that I notice are patterns. Darren, like me, was a “Bernie Bro” — a male voter who supported Bernie Sanders back in 2016. However, Darren has felt alienated from Democrats, and in 2024 voted for Trump. This is exactly the type of thing that has led to the Democrats’ downfall. Here’s a clip from the interview

“Why the Democrats aren't reaching men” - KALW “Book it” Podcast with Angie Coiro - full recording (48 minutes)
Recorded at San Francisco’s NPR affiliate KALW: Book It with Angie Coiro. Click the link to listen: https://www.kalw.org/podcast/book-it/2025-02-14/why-the-democrats-arent-reaching-men
Veteran radio journalist Angie Coiro hosts “Book It,” a series featuring San Francisco Bay Area authors on San Francisco’s NPR affiliate, KALW—91.7 FM. I was highly honored to be invited to come to the studio and discuss my book How Democrats Can Win Back Men and the reasons why Democrats have been losing among men for over four decades.
Many Shades of Green and Spermageddon
Lots of talk about the “Broligarchy” has dominated airwaves, and we also leaned into both environmental issues and what has been termed “Spermageddon” - the alarming decline in sperm counts globally. In fact, I’ve decided to rename “International Sperm Count Decline Awareness Day,” which takes place on June 30 every year, to “Spermageddon Day” — this year will be the 5th Anniversary.
Thanks for reading and listening, and I’ll continue to try to connect with the DNC and let you know if I hear anything!
Thank you, Mark. Maybe the problem with the Democrats is that the moderate wing is at war with the "progressive" wing. The progressive wing are all in with feminism and the dismissal of men and male issues. The progressive wing seems to be in charge now. Maybe you can make contact with James Carville, who has blasted the Democrats for their dismissal of men. He thinks that the Democrats have lost the male vote forever. The only hope is for the moderate Dems to regain power.
You truly are fighting the good fight, Mark. I'm sorry about the DNC's lack of interest, but as you've told me before, there truly is a systematic blindspot within the party when it comes to men's issues. But please, keep trying!
