Most importantly, President Biden stepped down and the candidacy of Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris took root followed by her selection of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. This has greatly energized the Democratic base, and there is the possibility of a historic outcome – the first woman and woman of color to occupy the Oval Office.
Additionally, numerous grassroots groups, several of which are comprised of men, have emerged in support of her candidacy. Meanwhile, former President Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt at the hands of yet another disgruntled young man.
As a result of these events, gender issues have taken center stage and made How Democrats Can Win Back Men even more urgent. The underlying facts and point of view of the original version of this book all remain applicable. The strategy of appealing to men is not a short-term strategy that ends on November 5, 2024. Instead, it is a long-term shift in Democratic focus. However, the ideas presented are now cast in a new light in an election with a fresh dynamic which has led to the updated and revised version. As before, keep checking back here to Men and the 2024 Election for updates in the final months of the election.
I am pretty sensitive to sexism against men---even little stuff. I haven't been watching the Democratic Convention but I did see Bill Clinton's speech. I noticed pretty quickly that it seemed all of the people focused on in the audience during the speech were women. Of course this did not apply to wide shots, but individuals or couples seemed to always be women. I reran the video and counted the individuals and couples that the cameras zoomed in on in the audience. I counted 16 individual women, 1 individual man, 4 female couples, and 2 mixed couples. I did not include in the final count when they zoomed in on Hillary and Chelsea Clinton (6 times) or Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff (twice). So the total was 26 women and 3 men. This cannot be coincidental. They purposely ignored men. Sure, this is really petty stuff, but it shows the complete gynocentrism and pandering to women by the Democratic Party. This has to stop.
